Work Mode: Onsite or Hybrid (2-3 days a week onsite)
Purpose of the position
To undertake specific design tasks to achieve engineering outputs to programme schedule, cost and specification, for both project and bids in accordance with the contract requirements, statements of work and Engineering Department procedures.

- Carry out the function of Mechanical Design Engineer including but not limited to:
- Work to standards, processes & procedures; ensure rigour, resilience and continuous improvement in design solutions; meeting all regulatory requirements; conforming to specifications, quality and certification requirements.
- Design products that are safe and meet all statutory requirements.
- To produce, amend and check drawings and Items lists; release them for use by other departments in line with department processes.
- Collaborating across Engineering Functions including Electrical and manufacturing.
- Ensuring design solutions are tolerant of the environment in which they operate.
- To identify opportunities to reduce costs in design, materials used and manufacturing techniques.
- To demonstrate flair; novel solutions to design problems using latest technologies; have input to design processes to reduce project/product cost and time to market.
- Work effectively across the matrix; deliver bottom-line performance collaboratively.
- Challenge the status quo; bring new ideas to improve engineering quality, productivity, timeliness of delivery.
Technical Competencies
- Proficient with Autodesk Inventor.
- Ideally proficient with Windchill PLM with experience in populating Part attributes, building Part structures, raising/ completing Change Requests/ Notices/ Tasks.
- Good IT skills including Word & Excel.
Education
Essential: Qualified to degree level in Engineering or Apprenticeship with sufficient experience in the field.
Desirable: Progress towards achieving Chartered status or equivalent professional accreditation.

- Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate energy & enthusiasm at all levels within & outside business.
- Ability to apply skills & knowledge across a wide range of projects.
- Sound understanding of product safety & standards.
- Experienced working towards requirements.
- Broad understanding of manufacturing techniques including sheet metal fabrication, riveting bonding & welding.
