Lead Design Engineer Wanted!

About Us:
We are seeking a Lead Design Engineer to deliver infrastructure projects across the West Sussex region. We are committed to excellence, safety, and innovation in the civil engineering sector. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Design Engineer to join our client's team, overseeing and executing a wide range of projects with expertise in highways, civils, groundworks, streetworks, district heating, and more.

Job Overview:
As the Lead Design Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the design of complex civil engineering projects, including highways, groundworks, and utilities. Your role will involve site-based design work, managing projects from initial concept to completion, ensuring that all work meets safety standards, is designed efficiently, and is compliant with industry regulations. You will also need hands-on experience with setting out trenches, utilities, and deep excavation projects. This position is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in civil design combined with field experience in construction and engineering operations.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the design of civil engineering projects including highways,
groundworks,
utilities,
and district heating systems.
- Conduct site assessments,
setting out trenches,
utilities,
and overseeing deep excavation work.
- Utilize CAD software to create accurate
detailed designs for civil engineering projects.
- Ensure that temporary works are designed
implemented to meet safety
technical standards.
- Collaborate closely with site teams to ensure designs are properly executed in the field.
- Supervise
mentor junior engineers
field teams providing technical support guidance.
- Review
sign off on design drawings specifications reports.
- Ensure all work complies with industry regulations health safety standards.
- Troubleshoot resolve on-site engineering issues working closely contractors subcontractors.

Qualifications & Experience Required:
- CSCS Card (essential)
- SSSTS (Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme) certification (desirable)
- NVQ in Civil Engineering or equivalent (desirable)
- Proven experience in highways civils groundworks streetworks district heating projects
- Hands-on experience setting out trenches setting out utilities
- Experience working deep excavation trenches associated safety requirements
- Strong proficiency CAD software (AutoCAD MicroStation similar)
- Solid understanding temporary works temp works safety protocols related them
- Excellent problem-solving skills ability think your feet
- Strong communication skills ability lead teams coordinate multiple stakeholders
- In-depth knowledge civil engineering design principles best practices
