Estates Department Overview
The Estates department at Furness General Hospital is a group of highly skilled electrical, mechanical and plumbing engineers, creative building craftpersons, and dedicated support staff.

Position Overview
We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Building Services Engineer to join us. You should be an experienced and time served Electrician, Plumber, or Mechanical Engineer looking to progress your career.

Team Structure
You will be part of a 7 person shift team providing 24/7 cover to the FGH and Millom hospital sites, and will be trained to specialise in healthcare ventilation and decontamination.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the safe and continuous operation of all engineering and building plant and equipment in accordance with statutory requirements, codes of practice, guidance notes, and Trust procedures to an agreed standard.
- Out of normal office hours site maintenance responsibility.
- Be the department's point of contact for all out-of-hours incidents and breakdowns; carry out first line assessment, fault finding, repair, substitute service or safe isolation as required.
- Act as the Trust's Fire Controlling Officer during a fire event for the site as a whole.
- Be appointed Authorised Person for roles within Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) 1 to 8.
- Carry out line manager duties for contractors.

Hospital Locations
We operate from three main hospitals:
1. Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow
2. Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI)
3. Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal

Community Healthcare Premises
In addition to our main hospitals we serve several community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital & GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe.

Services Offered
FGH and RLI provide a range of General Hospital services with full Emergency Departments; Critical/Coronary Care units; various Consultant-led services.
WGH offers General Hospital services along with an Urgent Treatment Centre that addresses non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones or minor illnesses.
All three hospitals provide planned care including outpatient services; diagnostics; therapies; day case surgery; inpatient surgery.
Local outreach services are also provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
