Opportunity Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a first-rate cardiologist, with sub-specialty expertise in pacing, devices and inherited cardiac conditions to join our vibrant team. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver clinical services encompassing all aspects of device implantation and inherited cardiac conditions. An academic profile is desirable. The candidate will also be expected to have substantial experience in clinical cardiology and participate in the general, cardiology on-call rota, currently 1:11.
Department Overview
The department has four state-of-the-art cardiac catheterisation laboratories. Our highly skilled devices team at UHNM implanted over 1100 devices in 2023/24 including 200 ICDs, 130 CRTs and a small number of Micra, Sub-q and his bundle devices. The department also offers a lead extraction service; this service is growing for our tertiary population of patients. The devices service is supported by an experienced and well-qualified cardiac scientific workforce who provide a 24/7 on-call service for pacing. There is also a dedicated advanced nurse practitioner supporting the devices team.
Inherited Cardiac Conditions Service
In addition to cardiac devices, this is an opportunity to further develop the department's well-established inherited cardiac conditions service. Monthly specialist clinics take place for patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; clinics occur regularly for patients with muscular dystrophies. The aortopathy service currently looks after over 800 patients, including those with Marfan syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and Loeys-Dietz syndrome. The department manages patients with the full range of channelopathies with strong links to the paediatric departments in Stoke and Birmingham children's hospital supporting a complete family service. The ICC service is supported by a dedicated advanced nurse practitioner with master's level training in genetics.

Position Details
This is a full-time post working as Consultant Cardiologist specializing in Complex Device Management & ICC expertise at University Hospitals North Midlands.
Clinical Duties:
- General Cardiology
- Diagnosis & treatment (ward & outpatients)
- Regular ward rounds on cardiology wards
- Continuing clinical responsibility allowing proper delegation/training
- Ward consults/referrals when on call
- Two outpatient clinics per week specializing ICC management (general cardiology component included)
- On-call commitment
Administrative Duties:
The appointee will undertake administrative duties associated with their clinical work supported by full secretarial assistance alongwith fully equipped office & IT facilities.The appointee must engage activelyin professional activities requiredfor revalidation includingclinical audit.All these activitiesare designatedas supportingactivitieson job plan below.The appointee will spend10 Programmed Activities(average4 hour sessions)per week basedon Direct Patient Careincluding prevention emergency work(on call),operating sessions(pre/post-operative care),ward rounds,outpatient activities,diagnostic work,treatment public health duties,multi-disciplinary meetings& administration relating above.Additionally,cross covering operating sessionsfordevicesbyappointeewhen otherconsultantsareaway.Timetables may changein futureto meetchangingneedsDirectorate&successfulcandidatecouldbe askedto takeadditionalworkgeneralcardiologydepending skill set attracting additionalPAs.
