Core Responsibilities:
- Manage the transmission of 'Live' complex events.
- Provide schedule management, output monitoring and first line recovery for any Sky hosted channels.
- Manage 'live' complex events including broadcasts with variable break structures or unpredictable durations.
- Prepare, check and update automation schedules to identify discrepancies before affecting output.
- Alter live automation schedules due to changing editorial or commercial requirements.
- Monitor channel outputs for scheduled content delivery without defect or degradation.
- Interpret automated fault detection and alarming systems for effective response to faults.
Key Duties:
- Schedule Preparation: Perform manual and automated tasks on playout schedules to identify potential errors.
- Live Schedule Management: Edit live automation schedule as required for content or timings adjustments.
- Live Schedule Monitoring: Confirm fault-free playout by monitoring channel outputs.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Understand Ofcom regulations and Sky policies related to broadcasting standards.
- Fault Identification: Identify loss or degradation of channel outputs immediately upon occurrence.
- Fault Recovery: Utilize system resilience or schedule editing techniques for recovery from issues encountered during transmission.
- Fault Management: Communicate with customers regarding faults through messages when immediate recovery isn't possible.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Escalate issues efficiently to 2nd line support teams and operational management as necessary
- Maintain knowledge of Sky's programming strategies
- Log & Report accurately any faults or deviations from scheduled content
- Ensure effective information management among colleagues
- Provide concise verbal/written communication professionally
- Train others on workflows using established training materials
- Support Playout Specialist functions as needed
- Manage complex live event preparations including negotiations with production teams
Qualifications:
- Degree qualification or relevant vocational qualifications
Specialist Knowledge:
- Skilled in Playout systems/workflows
- Experience managing live events including sports broadcasts
Industry Experience:
- Background in digital playout environments
Leadership Skills:
- Excellent communication & influencing skills
- Strong decision-making abilities

The Playout department ensures seamless delivery of channels for both Sky's own programming as well as third-party contracts across various platforms.
