Role Overview

We are seeking a Signalling Project Engineer to provide specialist engineering support within Network Rail's Asset Protection (ASPRO) team. The role involves technical assurance, design review, and project engineering support across third-party and outside-party schemes. The ideal candidate will have expertise in signalling systems, level crossings, control systems, and interlocking technologies.

Key Responsibilities

- Project Engineering Assurance:
- Conduct technical assurance in accordance with NR/L2/RSE/02009 and applicable Network Rail standards.
- Ensure compliance with NR/L2/SIG/30035 for Signalling and Level Crossing Scheme approvals.
- Provide engineering verification through site inspections when required.
- Manage design integration across disciplines, ensuring system safety, interoperability, and maintainability.

- Design & Construction Support:
- Review and comment on design proposals, Approval in Principle (AiP) documents, and detailed designs (Forms A, B, C, D, E, etc.).
- Verify signal sighting, glare assessments, and interlocking designs.
- Oversee construction methodology and risk assessments (RAMS).

- Stakeholder Management & Technical Input:
- Act as the technical liaison between project teams, designers, contractors, and Network Rail Engineers.
- Support customer and stakeholder engagements; ensuring compliance with Network Rail's safety and engineering standards.
- Attend and contribute to progress meetings; signal sighting meetings; interdisciplinary coordination sessions (IDC/IDR).

Key Competencies & Experience Required

- Competency in Network Rail Engineering Standards; particularly NR/L2/RSE/02009; NR/L2/SIG/30035; relevant signalling assurance frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of signalling systems
- Experience with legal regulatory frameworks including ORR stakeholder needs; CDM; CSM; level crossing orders.
- Ability to challenge design proposals ensure cost-effective compliant solutions.
- Excellent communication stakeholder engagement skills to manage multi-disciplinary teams external contractors.
- Authority to Work (ATW) certification for Network Rail project engineering roles (preferred).
- Previous experience within Network Rail or similar rail infrastructure environment.
