Job Profile
The Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) Lead will be part of the safety, licensing and assurance function, reporting to the Safety License and Assurance (SLA) Director, who is responsible for all aspects of nuclear safety and assurance interface management requirements. The SLA function is accountable for the setting of standards and strategies for delivery to meet GBN’s HSSEQ policies, including risk and assurance, regulatory, consents, licensing and permitting and quality. The HSSE Lead will develop and implement the project strategies for Health and Safety, Environment, Sustainability and Security to meet good practice and ensure compliance. Supported by their team, and working across the Integrated Project Team, they will be responsible for putting in place arrangements, systems and tools for managing HSSE that are in line with the appropriate international standards and UK regulatory guidance. Working with the SLA Director, their role will oversee the SMR Project Team including the supply chain in delivering the project safely*, efficiently*and compliantly.

You will form part of the establishment of a major programme. This will provide you with an opportunity to be part of a team ensuring successful delivery of a First of a Kind (FOAK) UK SMR Project helping to ensure it minimises its environmental impact whilst delivering cost-effective energy capacity. Whilst this is a fast-paced exciting challenge you will need to be comfortable with uncertainty ambiguity*and change.*Safety in this context includes conventional nuclear safety security*and environmental protection.

Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction on all HSSE matters promoting a strong safety culture across the SMR project.
- Develop and implement the HSSE strategy for the SMR project ensuring alignment with company policies regulatory requirements*and industry best practices.
- Lead the HSSE team in identifying*and mitigating risks to health safety security*and environment ensuring that robust systems are in place to control those risks.
- Ensure arrangements*and management systems are in place such that project complies with all applicable health *safety regulations including nuclear safety standards * workplace health requirements.
- Lead development * implementation of safety management systems ensuring that safety procedures hazard identification risk assessments * control measures are in place.
- Conduct * oversee regular safety audits inspections * risk assessments to identify potential hazards * ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Lead nuclear safety engagement with governmental regulatory * industry stakeholders on behalf of Project.
- Responsible for all aspects security for nuclear site including physical security cybersecurity personnel security.
- Liaise relevant authorities regulatory bodies ensure that all security measures meet stringent requirements nuclear facilities.
- Lead environmental protection efforts ensuring compliance environmental regulations implementing best practices sustainability.
- Develop manage environmental management systems including waste management emissions control environmental monitoring programs.
- Ensure that environmental impact assessments (EIAs) completed as required ongoing monitoring carried out throughout project lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance applicable HSSE regulations including nuclear standards set by bodies such as Health Safety Executive(HSE) Office Nuclear Regulation(ONR)*Environment Agency(EA)/Natural Resources Wales(NRW).

Knowledge Skills Experience required
Extensive experience management significant experience energy other high-hazard industries Strong knowledge regulations legislation standards relevant sector Proven experience leading teams managing complex programs large-scale engineering construction projects Experience bodies particularly ONR EA/NRW In-depth knowledge standards regulations compliance relevant international (IAEA WENRA). Experience conducting assessments audits root cause analysis Familiarity emergency planning incident Strong understanding frameworks e.g ISO 14001 45001 Exceptional communication skills ability interact explain complex processes technical non-stakeholders Capability embrace change uncertainty welcome emergent aspect job Ability foster collaborative supportive environment developing members’ capabilities Ability work collaborative multi-party pace

Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree occupational health science engineering related discipline A master’s degree equivalent qualification preferred Lead Auditor certification management systems e.g ISO 45001 or 14001
