About the Role
Carrington West is working with a consultancy delivering major design schemes within the water sector from its office in Bolton. We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support wastewater treatment projects nationwide. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in detailed mechanical design and will contribute to key design reviews and submissions. Opportunities are available at both Engineer and Senior Engineer levels, offering the chance to play a critical role in the design and delivery of Wastewater Treatment Projects for water authorities and AMP projects across the UK.

Responsibilities
- Design mechanical systems and components for water and wastewater treatment plants, including pumps, pipework, pressure vessels, and mechanical structures.
- Develop P&IDs, general arrangements, layouts, and detailed fabrication drawings.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical and process engineers.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards and regulations, including WIMES, British Standards, and UK Water Industry Guidelines.
- Conduct mechanical calculations, material selection, and system performance analysis.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure technical requirements are met.
- Provide technical support during construction, installation, and commissioning phases.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and procurement documentation.

Requirements
- Degree/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience working on water/wastewater treatment projects (clean and wastewater).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor or similar design software.
- Strong understanding of pump systems; pipework; valves; hydraulic systems.
- Familiarity with CDM regulations; HAZOP studies; mechanical risk assessments.
