Description

Outside IR35 Hardware Engineering opportunity with a Kent based client working on a next generation medical device (no prior medical experience is required), the position will involve bridging the gap between the engineering design team and the production department. The primary role is to enable a smooth transition of new designs from the engineering team to production.Responsibilities include;Test and diagnosing high speed video electronic systems, sub-assemblies and circuit boards.Where appropriate you would need to design and implement test jigs and other circuitry to enable testing of assemblies when they arrive from the manufacturer. This is likely to involve a mixture of mechanical design, electronic design/ software/firmware in C or python. You will be creating test specifications, operator instructions and reports. You will be identifying corrective actions and to liaise with the contract manufacturers to improve the incoming defect rate. including specifying and introducing new test equipment as required. You will be working with the design engineers to test and troubleshoot prototypes and products, assisting in new design and development. Having learned the details of the products you would be expected to specify and design fixtures to help reduce the test time and ultimately the incoming failure rate. The essence of the job is multidisciplinary and will involve electronic design, PCB layout (the client use Altium designer) and scope to complete mechanical design, possibly fusion360 with the option of contributing to user level programming.Other beneficial skills include;C and Python programming – this can be for a simple embedded processor on a test fixture or programming third part modules. Knowledge of Qt or other framework would be useful for this.Circuit assembly and rework – we currently use components down to 0201 size.Good DFM – no, or hardly any, rejects from incoming assemblies resulting from good feedback and relationships with the CMs.Proper instructions for assembly of the company’s products such that the production team can easily carry them out.Slick test procedures that can be easily carried out by trained operators. Please apply with an up to date CV if this could be of interest - the client has availability to interview W/C 17/02 for an asap start.
