Description
At UK Government Investments (UKGI), we provide the government with expertise in corporate finance and governance. What we do is unique. We are responsible for ensuring the effective governance of government owned companies (such as the British Business Bank), advising the government on corporate finance issues (including interventions into distressed corporate structures, such as Thomas Cook and British Steel) and all significant UK government asset sales (for example, the sale of the Green Investment Bank, the securitisation of the Student Loan book and the IPO of the Royal Mail). The work we do is significant in terms of social, economic and political impact.
Wholly owned by HM Treasury (HMT), UKGI has a team comprised of c.150 experts, drawn from the private sector (from banks, accountancy and legal firms) and from the Civil Service to ensure we provide government departments with high quality advice that is delivered and acted upon in the best way possible.

As part of governmentās efforts to use financial transactions and contingent liabilities (including loans, equity investments and guarantees) to promote growth and investment, UKGI is working with departments to provide actionable advice in support of their policy aims.
Following the October 2024 Budget, UKGIās Financial Instruments and Transaction Advisory Group (FInTAG) has been asked by His Majestyās Treasury to research and produce an annual report of all financial assets owned by the government to understand their true value, which will be used to help shape all future fiscal and financial planning that will define how government delivers on its priorities. This is a large expansion to our remit resulting in new opportunities for motivated individuals to join us and have a real impact on growth projects across the country such as affordable homes, national infrastructure projects and energy security.

Responsibilities
You will be working in a highly collaborative, friendly, and open-minded team that is developing:
- Improvements to how we collect data across government,
- Streamline data structures,
- Utilising said data for products to support delivering team objectives,
- Benefit other government departments;
- New analytical methodologies for stress testing governments' contingent liability;
- Analyse value,
- Risk,
- Performance across government's contingent liabilities
- Financial transactions;
- New analytical pipelines
to inform reports produced,
and ensure ongoing work continuously improves wide range analytical work undertaken;
and
New innovative data
analytical solutions for entire organisation.
During your time with FInTAG key areas include supporting:
1. Ensuring collaboration with wider team methodologies fully utilise collected data considering limitations;
2. Working across UKGI identifying how analyse value risk performance across government's contingent liabilities financial transactions;
3. Supporting improvements approach analysis ensuring robustness fit purpose;
4. Support presenting communication technical matters clearly technical non-technical audiences customers;
5. Supporting others distil findings technical financial matters effectively disseminated non-experts.
Essential criteria
As an analyst working with modelling analysis development you'll have demonstrable passion developing new analysis along following skills experience:
ā¢ You will have had role Assistant Economist or similar previously within public sector.
ā¢ Utilising external sources support developing new analytical methods.
ā¢ Good understanding standards respect producing quality analysis quality assurance.
ā¢ Strong understanding using Excel effectively prior experience R Python or demonstrable willingness learn.
ā¢ Strong understanding communicate analytical results effectively impact including non-audiences.
ā¢ Strong analytical problem-solving skills troubleshooting issues optimising processes.
