Summary: The Chief Engineer (Defence) role in Andover involves providing engineering leadership for military communication programmes within the Ministry of Defence. The position requires extensive experience in Defence Digital and Systems Engineering, particularly in a Design Authority capacity. The role emphasizes collaboration with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and develop organizational capabilities. This is a contract position lasting until July 2025, with a focus on both technical and customer-oriented leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as an Engineering Leader within military communication programmes for the Ministry of Defence.
Lead enterprise-wide solution development and collaborate with clients to understand their requirements.
Communicate required approaches and action points to a range of stakeholders.
Serve as a trusted advisor to clients and their business stakeholders.
Drive continuous improvement and incorporate lessons learned into approaches.
Work with senior client stakeholders to understand technical capabilities and timelines.
Provide leadership within the client-side team and among colleagues.
Collaborate with clients to develop and implement time-bound capability delivery increments.
Identify opportunities to trial new ways of working with delivery project teams.
Cohere approach with transformation activities outside of immediate delivery teams.
Key Skills:
Defence Digital experience essential.
Strong engineering leadership with a technical and customer focus.
Experience in leading enterprise-scale solution development in a defence context.
Previous experience as a Design Authority in complex systems engineering.
Practical experience in leading transformation programmes.
Ability to influence diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Advocacy for engineering and change activities.
Knowledge of architecture methodologies (preferably TOGAF/Archimate).
Understanding of Military Communications and Information Systems (CIS) and ISR systems.
Understanding of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is beneficial.
