The Opportunity

You will define and distribute the scope of work to ensure that the project is executed safely, on time, and at appropriate levels of quality. You are responsible for the delivery of design and engineering to meet the requirements of the technical specification.

Duration and Location
- Duration: 12 months +
- Location: Didcot, with remote working and occasional site visits

Your Duties and Responsibilities

- Development of Designs: Develop designs to satisfy the technical specification.
- Design Deliverables: Produce design deliverables throughout the design process.
- Design Reviews and Approvals: Check and approve discipline-specific design deliverables, contribute to design reviews and safety reviews.
- Quality and Timely Delivery: Ensure quality and timely delivery of design documentation throughout all phases of the design process.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety legislation and statutory regulations.
- Technical Solutions: Develop cost-effective technical solutions.
- Staff Development: Contribute to staff development.
- Safety Culture: Manage safety by developing and reinforcing the safety culture.
- Contractor Management: Manage contractors.
- Technical Consultancy: Provide technical consultancy.

Qualifications and Experience

- Education: Degree qualified in a relevant technical/engineering discipline or demonstrable experience.
- Charter Status: Working towards, or already have, Charter status in a discipline-specific engineering institution.
- Technical Understanding: Strong understanding of the fundamentals within your engineering discipline.
- Security Clearance: Current SC Security Clearance.
- EC&I Experience: Significant experience in two or more of the following specific EC&I areas:
- Mechanical Handling (including Remote in-cell handling)
- Process Instrumentation
- Appreciation of Functional Safety (to BS EN 61508/BS EN 61511)
- Machinery Safety (including BS EN 60204 and BS EN 13849)
- LV Distribution Systems (including experience in Trimble Pro-design)
- Nuclear Industry Experience: Previous experience of working within the nuclear industry.
- AWE Processes: Understanding of AWE processes and procedures.
- Design Delivery: Proven track record of successfully delivering design solutions.
- Safety Cases: Understanding of design requirements and justification to support nuclear safety cases.
- Safety Legislation: Good understanding of safety legislation and statutory regulations.
- Organisational and Interpersonal Skills: Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Commercial Awareness: Good level of commercial awareness.
- Team Leadership: Experience of leading design teams.
- Sub-Contract Management: Experience of managing sub-contracts.

Additional Skills

- Full Membership: Full membership of a discipline-specific engineering institution.
- DARs Understanding: Understanding of DARs.
- EC&I Design Integration: EC&I design integration with control systems (PLC/SCADA) would be advantageous.
- Design Substantiation: Experience of Design Substantiation to support safety cases including assessment of new and existing systems.
- Bid Preparation: Experience of bid preparation.

The Setting for the Role

- Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a nuclear licensed site. These can include nuclear fuel, radiation, chemicals and gases, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high pressure circuits, steam, high noise and vibration levels.
- A full site induction will be provided, and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
