Job Overview
NRAS has an exciting opportunity for maternity leave cover for a period of 12 months. We are looking for someone who is a great communicator, has evidence of establishing relationships with funders and is proactive and motivated to join our friendly and ambitious fundraising team, part-time 3 days a week. Previous Experience In Grants/grants Applications/fundraising Is Required.
The National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS), is the only organisation in the UK specialising in both rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). Due to its targeted focus on RA and JIA, NRAS provides truly expert and wide-ranging services to support, educate and campaign for people living with these complex autoimmune conditions, their families and the health professionals who treat them.
As a small-medium sized charity (approximately 30 staff members), with a current income of circa Β£1.8m, we achieve a huge amount on a small budget, punching well above our weight. The role will focus on medium to high value Trusts and Grants bids, report writing, relationship management and application pipeline management.
Main Purpose of Job
- Develop and implement an action plan for medium to large trust and grant fundraising bids with the Chief Operating Officer (COO)
- Work with the COO to continue to sustain, develop and grow this important income stream in line with the Charityβs strategic objectives
- Build and develop relationships with a portfolio of potential and strategically important grant and trust bodies
- Maintain and deliver a schedule of applications and reporting to grant makers, including prospecting for new funders
- Work across departments to help develop creative projects for funders that include well balanced budgets which are attractive
- Understand the funding landscape from grants, trusts & foundations
Position in Organisation
The post holder will report to the COO. This role is part of the wider fundraising team.

Qualifications & Skills/Experience
High levels of literacy & numeracy
Desirable: Degree level or equivalent; Fundraising qualification
Experience of writing successful applications
Developing income from trusts & foundations
Demonstrable fundraising experience & achievements
Understanding & implementation of fundraising techniques
Excellent interpersonal & presentation skills
Work with volunteers
Understanding voluntary sector
Understanding health sector
Working with High Net Worth individuals
Knowledge
Excellent written & oral communication skills
Proficient use of Microsoft Word; Excel; PowerPoint

Main Duties & Key Responsibilities
Fundraising
Identify new supporters/potential funders
Prepare/submit compelling funding applications
Develop existing relationships Trusts/Grant giving bodies/high level supporters
Development
Identify/develop/support ways NRAS increase income through grants fundraising
Marketing
Work Marketing Communications where appropriate develop/create compelling cases support/reports existing funders
Management
Participate/contribute team meetings
Other Duties
Possible travel throughout UK involving some overnight stays
Attendance participation team meetings
Any other duties as requested
Representing NRAS
Represent NRAS external stakeholders/funders/partners promoting it as respected/trusted charity resulting fruitful/mutually beneficial partnerships/successful funding/effective collaborative working.
