About Us
The Happier Lives Institute (HLI) conducts and promotes research into the best ways to improve global happiness. We are preparing for a major opportunity. We have landmark research (into how much happiness charities create with money) appearing shortly in the World Happiness Report and we are planning a campaign around it. We have marketing capacity for this and we are looking for an experienced Fundraising Consultant to help us design and execute a high-impact fundraising strategy to capitalize on the opportunity. This is a flexible, part-time contract role (estimated 10-15 hours per week) with the potential for an extended engagement based on performance and fundraising outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
- Develop a fundraising strategy tailored to HLI’s unique position, including individual giving, major donors, and institutional funders.
- Identify and prioritize funding opportunities, ensuring a balanced approach across different donor segments, fundraising for both HLI itself, and HLI’s recommended charities.
Donor Engagement & Stewardship
- Craft compelling messaging for donor outreach, ensuring alignment with HLI’s mission.
- Advise on high-value donor cultivation, including outreach strategies for major donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
- Develop a stewardship plan to nurture relationships with existing and prospective donors.
Fundraising Campaign Execution
- Assist in optimizing a campaign for HLI recommended charities to maximize donations over time following World Happiness Day (March 20), where our work in the World Happiness Report is made public.
- Provide guidance on effective appeals, donor communications, and storytelling to enhance engagement.
- Help ensure donation processes are optimized by advising on implementing systems and tools (CRM, donor tracking, analytics, email automations) to improve fundraising efficiency.
Collaboration, Training & Handover
- Integrate fundraising into marketing with input into PR and social media plans.
- Equip the HLI team with best practices in fundraising and documented processes ensuring long-term sustainability.
- Provide recommendations for ongoing donor cultivation beyond the campaign.
Who We're Looking For
Fundraising Expertise
- 5 years’ experience in fundraising for nonprofits or social impact organizations.
Proven Track Record
- Demonstrated success in securing major gifts building donor pipelines running high-impact fundraising campaigns.
Strategic Thinker
- Ability to design scalable data-driven fundraising strategies tailored to a small but growing organization.
Excellent Communicator
- Skilled in donor engagement messaging persuasive writing.
Independent & Proactive
- Can take initiative work autonomously in a small remote research-focused team.
Familiarity with Effective Giving as well as cost-effectiveness wellbeing science WELLBYs impact measurement are pluses.
