Head of Software Engineering - Contract - £650/day Outside IR35 - Manchester/Hybrid (2/3 days per week)
We are looking for a Head of Software Engineering to lead the technical strategy and execution of a large-scale SaaS rollout across Europe. This is a high-impact leadership role, working at the early stages of a major transformation programme to define and implement a new global platform.
Key Responsibilities:
• Drive the technical strategy, architecture, and execution of a new cloud-native SaaS platform.
• Engage in early-stage discussions with senior stakeholders, shaping the long-term roadmap.
• Oversee multiple teams and ensure best practices, standardisation, and engineering excellence.
• Establish a DevOps culture, ensuring production systems are resilient, scalable, and secure.
• Manage resource planning, onshore and offshore teams, and supplier relationships.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Delivery, Architecture, and QA to ensure smooth execution.
• Provide technical leadership while maintaining hands-on expertise in cloud-native development.
What We're Looking For:
• Proven track record of delivering global SaaS solutions from inception to deployment.
• Deep understanding of cloud-native environments and experience in AWS-based architectures.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage and influence at all levels.
• Experience leading large, distributed software engineering teams (20+ headcount).
• Expertise in DevOps, automation, and agile delivery methodologies.
• Hands-on background in modern software development (.NET Core, JavaScript, SQL, etc.).
• Knowledge of DORA metrics and performance management for high-performing teams.
• Experience managing 3rd party suppliers, including nearshore and offshore teams.
Contract Details:
Rate: £650/day (Outside IR35)
Location: Manchester/Hybrid (2/3 days per week)
Duration: 6 months
