The Opportunity
Our Client is one of the UK’s leading pioneers in the race to develop and manufacture the latest Battery technology for industry, with an initial primary focus on supporting our ever growing Automotive manufacturing sector (but not exclusively!), ensuring that there will be a brighter and greener future for us all. As part of this growth, we are now actively seeking an experienced Technical Laser Welder (Expert!) on a contract basis for a likely minimum duration of 6 months, although there is a chance that this might see extension beyond this term. On offer to the successful candidate is a highly competitive day rate which would see you working on a contract basis outside of IR35 regulations.
The role
The Laser Welding Technical Expert works as part of the Manufacturing Engineering team to develop and demonstrate practical feasibility of laser welding systems and technologies with customers. The role works directly with customers and project teams, where you will prepare weld trials and perform welding tests, sampling, and demonstrations of scale up capability of a wide range of welding technologies and processes. As their Laser Welding Expert, you will work as part of a highly skilled team of engineers and scientists. They provide welding solutions for various battery applications. As the subject matter expert, the role troubleshoots problems, diagnoses, repairs and achieves technical welding equipment solutions and approaches with developing technology.
Your duties and responsibilities will be:
- Create and enhance welding parameters; develop processes for various applications.
- Capability to work with industry standard laser welding equipment specifically – Manz.
- Providing laser welding application advice for customers / internal teams.
- Conducting design welding tests; create samples for customers; technology demonstrations including evaluation technical requirements; preparing processing customer applications.
- Providing expert technical support to engineering/welding queries/problems.
- Technical report writing; customer collaboration.
- Produce expert training for different welding processes to internal teams.
- On site troubleshooting; diagnostics; support service/repair/development equipment as subject matter expert.
- Supporting engineers from other disciplines in solving complex manufacturing issues.
- Technology advancement both equipment/supply chain.
- Collaboration/engagement research community on topics related to welding.
- Responsible laser-welding activities across business field lithium-ion battery cell/module & pack manufacturing support specific module projects.
- Engage research community collaborate/contribute development roadmaps creation new processes/methods processing
- Understand latest principles joining technology application lithium-ion battery cell/module & pack across market sectors.
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
You should be ideally educated Degree level (Bachelor’s or Master’s) relevant Engineering or Materials Science discipline although plenty relevant experience considered. Any following Certifications would be bonus here: AWS Certified Laser Welder (CLW) certification; AWS Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) Certification; Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification IIW Laser Welding Certification Industry-Specific Certification ISO 9001 Laser Welding Certification Laser Safety Certification by LIA Manufacturer-Specific Certification.
You should offer multiple years’ experience working as Laser Welder knowledge Processing marking machining. It likely gained expertise previously working Automotive Battery Aerospace Defence sectors perhaps even aligned industry welded copper aluminium.
You need skilled analysis investigation defects must demonstrate sound judgment strong attention detail good organisational skills ability clearly prioritise work dynamic development environment proficient Microsoft Office including Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint.
It’s great if you also have:
Use SharePoint other programs such CAD beneficial here but essential CNC robotic programming scientific analysis vision systems experience useful again not essential.
