The Role
As an Architect at David Kohn Architects, you will have a pivotal role in delivering ambitious projects with leading consultant teams for inspiring clients and be at the forefront of design and research within the practice. As a senior, project or package architect you are expected to take responsibility for the role and to communicate regularly and effectively with your junior team members and line managers on progress and any issues. The Practice
David Kohn Architects was established in 2007 and has gained an international reputation for the quality of its design. The practice won RIBA House of the Year in 2022 and has several exciting projects that are in construction, planning, and at early feasibility stages. The small-scale work of the team feeds into the practices’ work on major projects which currently includes a mixed-use building in Birmingham, an architecture faculty in Belgium, and a university campus in Oxford. Supporting our clients in the drive towards carbon negative futures is an important part of our current and future work.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as senior, project or package architect dependent on project experience;
- Drive project design development through sketching, models, CAD with regular design reviews;
- Work closely with the team leader to ensure a coherent design delivery approach;
- Input on project resourcing manage time according to budget;
- Communicate effectively with clients;
- Manage coordination across design teams;
- Oversee projects on site administer building contracts;
- Support team leader new business opportunities marketing;
- Line manage architectural assistants mentor junior colleagues.
Experience Knowledge
You have delivered projects within UK knowledge statutory processes standards; You have experience through all stages including onsite – experience contract administration advantage but not requirement; You will be commercially astute having delivered projects constraints such agreed timescales construction cost internal resource budget; You will be well organised able carefully plan work yourself members team needed;
A sensitive rigorous approach brief development design materiality supported portfolio highest quality;
Working closely clients communicating clearly effectively;
A knowledge architectural history work David Kohn Architects practice’s design approach.
Skills
You will be highly organised able prioritise both design team’s own work meet deadlines;
You will be able communicate complex issues verbally writing drawing models different audiences;
Experience drawing Vectorworks preparing presentations using Adobe Creative Suite;
Experience using Revit advantage but not requirement;
Experience writing specifications using NBS advantage but not requirement;
Strong presentation skills emphasis hand sketching draw ideas plans details confidently discussions;
You understand physical model-making able direct architectural assistants explore deliver ideas efficiently;
You will have interest practice wide issues beyond including new business office management.
