Adult Day Programme: Clinical Nurse Specialist
Overview
This is a unique opportunity for a nurse to further their practice and experience within a specialist setting, working within our Day Programme Service. This is a wonderful opportunity to develop care co-ordination and nursing leadership skills as part of the management teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing support to clients diagnosed with Eating Disorders via meal support, supervision, key work.
- Develop and facilitate specialist therapeutic groups as part of the programme.
- Ensuring patient safety and care is maintained at a high standard.
- Develop specialist risk assessment skills in a community day programme setting.
- Providing supervision to junior staff and students.
- Completion of audits.
- Deputising for day programme manager if required.

Clinical Roles
- Ensure nursing practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Mental Health Legislation, which incorporates and respects differences in respect of gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, culture and disability.
- To ensure that planning of care occurs within the framework of CPA; that relevant local and national guidelines are adhered to; support band 5 nursing staff to ensure relevant documentation is completed.
- To communicate with families and carers engaging with them to support patient care.
- To act as group facilitator/co-facilitator as required including supervision of meals in dining room as well as inpatient and day patient groups.
- Participate in maintenance of general/specific patient observations; accurately recording all relevant information; report any concerns. This includes ensuring ECGs & Venepuncture practices are completed per patient care plan.
- Participate in insertion of Nasogastric tubes & administration prescribed diet per patient care plan & policy/protocol.
- Support patients during meals by role modelling supportive interventions for fellow staff members.
- Always act in manner promoting/safeguarding interests/well-being patients/visitors/colleagues.
- Support patients’ leave from ward providing escort if needed ensuring safety not compromised.
- Engage in social/occupational/psychological activities maximizing therapeutic opportunities for patients.
- Ensure medications administered per medication chart; participate safe storage medications including stock rotation/pharmacy audits.
- Participate rotational duties/work alternative settings when required.
Management Of Resources
- Deputise/provide senior nurse cover part management team on ward when needed.
- Assist/support establishment efficient working environment maximizing effective use staff/supplies/services available resources specific Ward/Department .
- Ensure agreed Trust policies/procedures followed/report maintenance requirements through Trust processes reporting difficulties nurse charge .
- Support investigation handling complaints undertake disciplinary investigations/staff performance data collection collaboration management team ward .
- Ensure all relevant Managers aware difficulties omissions care complaints dealt according Trust Policy .
Take lead role assist recruitment selection new staff delivering quality evidence-based service Inpatients available resources .
Work part management team organizing across service resources available .
Communications And Liaison
Form positive therapeutic relationships people experiencing acute crisis distress context partnership trust using excellent communication skills .
Acquaint Ward Manager Matron professional concerns promote professional practice all times .
Ensure information confidential nature not divulged unauthorized person stored line provisions Data Protection Act .

Research & Development
