Location: Hybrid - 2 days per week onsite in Edinburgh (other sites possible)
Rate: £500-£525 per day (Outside IR35)
Duration: 9-month contract
On-call & Out-of-hours support required
Overview
A top UK financial services organisation is seeking a z Network - Service Engineer to provide technical support and project delivery for its Mainframe networking estate. This role focuses on infrastructure modernisation, resilience improvements, and operational support. You will ensure system stability, performance optimisation, and contribute to key projects, working within change management and Agile/DevOps environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain service stability and optimise Mainframe networks.
- Support & implement changes within the estate.
- Resolve incidents and problems within agreed KPIs.
- Provide 24x7 operational support (on-call & out-of-hours as needed).
- Collaborate with stakeholders and align technology solutions with business needs.
- Drive automation, standardisation, and process improvements.
Technical Requirements
- Extensive Mainframe networking experience (z/OS & z/VM).
- Strong knowledge of Communication Server, SNA, TCP/IP.
- Expertise in session management tools (TPX, CL/Supersession, NC-Access).
- Experience with network monitoring tools (IBM NetView).
- Proficient in JCL, USS, SDSF, and Mainframe system administration.
- Hands-on experience in incident resolution & troubleshooting critical systems.
- Familiarity with ITIL best practices, change management & automation (REXX, Unix Shell, JCL).
- Experience working in Agile & DevOps environments with tools like Jira & Confluence.
- Understanding of disaster recovery, security protocols & compliance standards.
Ideal Candidate
- Mid-to-senior level Mainframe engineer with strong networking expertise.
- Comfortable working in hybrid mode (Edinburgh-based).
- Hands-on problem solver with a track record in infrastructure upgrades & migrations.
- Willing to provide on-call & out-of-hours support for critical incidents.
