Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered general nurse to undertake a band 7 nurse practitioner role in our Walk in Centres and Urgent Treatment Centres.

Overview:
The Walk in Centres assess and treat patients with minor illness and injuries. They are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days per week. The service is nurse led and offers both an appointment or a walk-in service.

Qualifications:
- The candidate must be RGN / AHP with relevant examination and diagnostic experience.
- NMP V300 is desirable.
- This is a Bank post.

Responsibilities:
- Work within a team as an autonomous practitioner, accountable for the health care management of the client/patient group.
- Perform holistic assessments to interpret, diagnose, treat, discharge with appropriate outcomes or determine the most relevant pathway for patients.
- Take charge of shifts and manage service provision in the absence of the Clinical Nurse Manager.
- Show commitment to support and develop others ensuring consistent high-quality delivery of service underpinned by Personal Performance Planning process and Clinical Supervision.
- Work across all Walk-in Centre services through all shift patterns.

Quality Strategy:
- Ensure delivery of quality strategy within designated area incorporating establishment of systems and processes.

Key Duties:
1. Act as a nurse practitioner/shift lead managing clinical effectiveness using a multi-skilled team approach.
2. Maintain effective multidisciplinary team working communication utilizing effective referral pathways.
3. Co-coordinate day-to-day running including shift leader responsibilities; provide leadership regarding clinical practice; extend scope by improving knowledge competencies; report sickness/absence accidents/incidents according to Trust policies/procedures; provide high-quality evidence-based care/advice; work autonomously performing holistic assessments leading towards discharge/referral appropriately based on undifferentiated conditions; develop knowledge on minor illnesses/injuries achieving competencies effectively assessing/treating/discharging/referring appropriately; support professional development peers/junior staff towards autonomous status across patient presentations at Walk-in centres; demonstrate positive commitment teaching/training assessment/development nursing learners facilitating programs for learners/supervising Band 6 Nurse Practitioners/Band 5 Associate Nurse Practitioners/Health Care Assistants acting mentor/teacher peers/students from other disciplines;
4. Work flexibly supporting all Walk-in Centres ensuring capacity meets demand initiating escalation policy procedures when necessary;
5. Operate within professional practice scope providing integrated primary care collaborating key stakeholders ensuring continuity patient care;
6. Support Clinical Team Leader contributing developing new ways responsive patient needs requiring moderate physical effort/intense concentration during shifts managing patients via VDU equipment interaction;
7. Exercise personal/professional autonomy critical judgement proven skills x-ray undertaking assessment management wound assessment/suturing diagnosing/managing wide range minor injuries/ailments empowering others making effective clinical decisions based recent evidence mentoring team members assisting policy/procedure implementation guidance nursing practice ensuring clinically effective interventions latest available evidence understanding legal issues accountability responsibility administering medication following training under patient group direction/nurse prescriber clinically indicated responsible specialist diagnostic procedures subsequent out-of-hours management outlined local plans adhering NMC Standards Practice maintaining required skills competencies utilizing relevant training experience clinical skills assessment diagnosis treatment management (e.g., wound management venepuncture vaccinations immunisations) communicating complex sensitive contentious information overcoming barriers highest level interpersonal communication skills supporting efficient use resources adhering administrative policies procedures familiarizing IT systems security policies electronic record keeping system possessing IT skills enabling usage clinical system sending receiving communications via email.
